FAMU FACTS
- FAMU is the nation's largest Historically Black University, and graduates
more African Americans than any other institution.
- FAMU sits on the highest of 7 hills in Florida's capital, over-looking the
entire state. This fact gives the university its nickname, "the Hill."
- FAMU leads the nation in the recruiting of National Merit Achievement Scholars---top high school students hand
picked by the National Merit Foundation who are sought out by colleges nationwide. Harvard University is an all-time close second.
- FAMU graduates 90% of all African American pharmacists in the state with its 6-year doctoral program, which
is #1 in the southeast and #4 nationally in research funding.
- FAMU is the home of one of the most winning< football teams in existence, with 9 national championships to its credit.
- FAMU's School of Business and Industry (SBI) is a mainstay on the short lists of
America's FORTUNE 500 companies, from which they target executives from the selected schools on their lists for the highest positions within the company. These same
companies pay SBI to the tune of $200,000.00+ a piece just to have their company logo posted on the "SBI big board", and feverishly recruit the school's graduates year after
- FAMU has been a consistent chart topper on Black Enterprise's Top 50 colleges for African
Americans since the inception of the list.
- The Florida Classic featuring FAMU versus Bethune Cookman (along with the Bayou Classic)
is the nation's largest African-American event, with 70,000-80,000 tickets sold annually as well as
hoards of fans who don't actually attend the game but nevertheless came just to take in the
atmosphere.
- FAMU's Honda All-Star Campus Challenge Brain Bowl Team has more
championships to its credit than any other institution, going head to head against every other reputable HBCU in the nation in a game
of academic and trivia pursuit.
